Aulps Beer Festival
Saturday 05 September 2026
from 11:00 to 20:00
Location : Domaine de Découverte de la Vallée d'Aulps
Come and meet the breweries taking part and discover the art of beer-making through a series of workshops, held on the grounds of Aulps Abbey.
On Saturday, September 5, 2026, the Aulps Abbey will host the “Aulps Beer Festival.” Organized in collaboration with La Fermenterie des Champs Marmo, this day entirely dedicated to beer will take place amid the ruins of the abbey church from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Beer tastings, workshops, and food trucks await visitors at this free event.
An event as part of an existing collaboration
Based in Seytroux, just a few kilometers from Aulps Abbey, La Fermenterie des Champs Marmo is an experimental space for alternative fermentation methods. Beers, kombucha, and ciders are produced naturally, without the use of industrial yeast or additives, and with respect for wild harvesting and the mountain environment in which it takes place. From this place emerged Chris Beer Consulting—named after its founder—which uses its expertise in the field to supply local shops and restaurants, as well as businesses in a much wider area, even extending abroad. After an initial collaboration during the Monastic Markets held several years ago at Aulps Abbey, it is now our tavern, “La Croix Blanche,” that benefits from Chris’s valuable advice and expertise in sourcing fermented beverages, particularly the kombuchas that have been on our menu since last summer.
A Gathering of Local Brewers
Carefully selected by Chris’s expert eye, about ten brewers from all corners of the Haute-Savoie department will be present for the event. Among them are Brasserie du Bruant (Vallée Verte), Brasserie 744 located at the foot of Le Môle, Brasseries des Voirons, du Criou (in Taninges), and du Mont Salève, as well as Big Mountain Brewing Company, based in Chamonix. Not to mention, of course, Ibex, a brewery in Montriond that has been a loyal participant in our Abbaye Sonic event, and, of course, La Rochoise: based in La Roche-sur-Foron, it has been brewing our Aulps beer—a beverage of excellence made with fine honey from the abbey’s hives—for 10 years now. Brasserie L’Escargot, from Thyez in the Arve Valley, will also be returning to the estate: its two brewers were, in fact, present at past editions of “ça mousse à Aulps,” a brewers’ gathering held on the estate between 2015 and 2018. The Abbey of Aulps is therefore delighted to revive this initiative, which had been on hiatus for several years but makes perfect sense on a Cistercian site: abbey beers—Trappist beers in particular—are products of recognized quality, which are also available for purchase year-round in our gift shop.
Educational and Festive Activities
True to its mission of providing educational outreach to the public, the Abbey will host workshops and lectures offering opportunities for meaningful discussion about fermentation and the secrets of brewing. Chris from Fermenterie des Champs Marmo will explain “How to Make Your Own Kombucha” at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. Dave, from Brasserie Ibex, will reveal “The Secrets of Beer Brewing” at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Finally, Chef Rob Wood from Le Bec Jaune in Morzine will lead a talk on “Fermented Cuisine” at 2:00 p.m. The day will feature live music, and visitors can enjoy meals on-site from the food trucks. La Taverne La Croix Blanche will also feature its menu of regional specialties and sweet treats, as well as a selection of Trappist beers, including La Trappe, Rochefort, Chimay, and the extremely rare Orval.
